Specific Shares
You can choose specific tax lot shares for stock sell requests. You can choose from up to 10 of the oldest tax lots held in your Stock Plan Account for a security on the Tax Lots Choose Specific Shares screen. When you specify tax lot shares, you assign each tax lot a priority. This sets the order in which tax lot shares will be sold. Choosing and prioritizing the order in which specific tax lot shares are sold may help you to minimize or maximize the gain or loss you will realize. In many cases, a Sell Request can execute with the full share amount sold all at once. In some cases, (e.g., with large share quantities), a Sell Request may be partially executed. This is when the priority you specify is useful, because it sets the order in which the tax lot shares are sold. Please note:
Specify Lots, Specified Lots
A section on the Tax Lots Choose Specific Shares screen and on the Tax Lots Specified Lot Detail screen. In this section, up to 10 of the oldest tax lots are listed for the stock you want to enter a stock sell request for. In this section on the Tax Lots Choose Specific Shares screen, you assign a priority to one or more tax lots to choose the lots from which you want to sell shares. You also enter the quantity of shares from each lot you would like to enter the sell request for. In many cases, a sell request can execute with the full share amount sold all at once. In some cases, a sell request may be partially executed. This is when the priority you specify is useful, because it sets the order in which the tax lot shares are sold. On the Tax Lots Specified Lot Detail screen, the lots and shares you have specified for a stock sell request are displayed for your information. This screen displays when you select the Specified Lot Detail link from Stock Sell Request Status. For the Specify Lots section on the Tax Lots Choose Specific Shares screen, the total number of specified tax lot shares cannot be greater than the total number of shares for the sell request entered. If the total specified tax lot shares is less than the total for the sell request, the remaining unspecified shares will be sold using the First In / First Out (FIFO) accounting method.
